I’m slowly managing to get the body clock right, but it’s taking time. The only reason is I have to be out of the hostel at 11am because they are fumigating the rooms. Thank the lord they didn’t do this yesterday.
Daylight. I’ve not really missed you. I’ve always been nocturnal. Now I stand, blinking in the morning sun, blinded by the fact that my contact lenses are not fitting into my eyes properly. It’s time to track down a new pair of glasses.
The relative sleepiness of San Juan Del Sur is transposed by the hustle and bustle of Granada’s market and shopping district. The problem here is the pavements are too narrow, vendors take up much of the space, and traffic flies down the small street. Consequentially you have to dance like a boxer through the throng, always mindful of your pockets. It’s not the best place to wander if you can’t see. You also end up looking like you’re ignoring friends as you turn away, unable to see them at a distance.
I manage to find exactly what I’m looking for; which is rare, but it’s also lucky that the optician speaks enough English to understand what I need. I’ve chosen Converse frames, slightly more risky than my previous pair. They cost about the same as I would pay back home however, so I am a little disappointed I didn’t get a bargain. When it comes to my sight though, it’s no expense spared. I am looking forward to my visit to Columbia, where I can finally get them lasered.
Being short sighted for so long has always been such a burden to me. My mum used to say I would crawl on the floor and smash my head off doors when I was a baby. Perhaps I was blind from birth? I was never able to play sports well, and the cost of glasses and contacts over the years has been ridiculous. Having my specs nicked off my face was the final straw. It’s time to spend a load of cash to have a laser cut into my eyes. Hopefully I’ll see what happens next.
I’m a pretty chuffed individual though as I leave the store. I pick my new gecks up on Saturday.
Christmas Eve.
Is it really? Its safe to say I’ve not had Christmas this year. It’s totally passed me by. I only hope that come Saturday night I’m not alone in a hostel room feeling sorry for myself. I guess I’ll just have to go out…
PS: Two odd sights in Granada today. I witnessed a pedestrian/two motorcycle head on pile up, and a collapsed building on the main street. Check out the pictures. I hope nobody was hurt, although I’m kind of relieved I wasn’t involved. I might actually have gone home if a building fell on my head.
