I awake bent out of shape, blinking in the sunlight, crammed into the front passenger seat. It’s not fun. We manage to locate where we were meant to be last night/this morning, and troop in, feeling like we’d slept in an ambulance. As luck would have it, the hostel is located round the corner, and we have missed a massive party with loads of female teachers. Curses.
Our spirits are lifted by our new home for the next few days. D&D’s bed and breakfast, picked out of the Lonely Planet guide, is a little slice of heaven for people on the road. It’s a microbrewery, eco hostel and bird watchers paradise, with a swimming pool and purified water showers. After the challenge of last nights border crossing and drive, we decide to take it easy on ourselves, and spend the day relaxing, enjoying the good food and nicest beer we’ve tasted in 3 weeks. Tomorrow we hand over the first of the ambulances, as this leg of our journey approaches what will surely be an emotional conclusion.
The toilets are located outside near some bushes. After a few drinks, and fumbling in the dark, I’m convinced I’ll put my hand on a Tarantula that just happens to be sitting on the light switch at that moment. Either that or face plant myself into the pool for all to see. Probably both as I run screaming from the bathroom.
